Welcome to MiOnline
Course Overview
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence–based clinical method for
helping people engage in and maintain behaviour change. It combines the
client-centred counselling style of Carl Rogers with directive psychological
methods to help clients increase motivation for change, resolve ambivalence,
strengthen commitment, and carry through with behaviour change. Originally developed
by Professors Miller and Rollnick for helping people with alcohol and drug
problems, MI is now being applied more widely in medical settings, criminal
justice, rehabilitation and mental health settings.
Topics covered:
- The spirit of Motivational Interviewing
- Principles of MI
- Change talk- what is it? How to recognize and reinforce
it.
- Opening Strategies
